April - May 2008

Hello!

In May 2008 I was part of a world premiere of a work called Ex Statis by Gareth Farr in the Auckland Town Hall on May 15th 2008. The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra commissioned the work and the other singers were Mere Boyton, George Henare and James Eggleston. It was a wonderful night as I really enjoy singing Gareth's music and I also enjoyed the libretto written by Paul Horan.

In April 2008 I went to China to sing in Beijing and Hangzhou as part of the celebrations for the NZ-China Free Trade agreement. I sang with my classical guitar, something which I really enjoy and is extremely handy when it comes to limited time for rehearsal. I sang some Villa - Lobos and Britten as well as Summertime and Tarakihi.

Now it is full steam ahead for my law exams in 5 weeks time. I've really loved International Law and have found this to be a real privilege to learn and have some time to dwell on some big issues out there! I'm hoping to find some time to write about what I've learnt on my law blog over the holidays.Until then , musically wise, I hope to be able to write of some exciting news very shortly - another overseas sing is being negotiated!

To keep you up to date - a new page has been added to my website where I will gradually write about people that I enjoy to work with. It will take me years as I am so busy, however I hope you enjoy! Debbie.
